During waking hours the Pīwakawaka is almost never entirely still. They flit about from branch to leaf, from rock to fence post, always moving, always alert, tail feathers fanned out behind them in a luxurious black and white flashing. You might hear them tweeting from across the paddock, in the trees above you as you walk through the forest, or right in front of you as you weed the garden. They’re delightful, they’re resourceful and they’re mischevious!
